Current Events Quiz #1.4
1. Sen. Susan Collins, Sen. John McCain, Sen. Rand Paul, Sen. Ted Cruz
2. in 1969
3. skimmer- a device used by a criminal to steal debit or credit card information
4. It will help them keep their best employees and keep customer service up.
5. Joe Jones
Long Answers:
1. I have heard lots of controversy about this topic before I read the article. Most people I have talked to have had mixed feelings about the kneeling. I also read the tweet Trump sent out about the situation and know his feelings about kneeling when the national anthem is played.
2. I do not believe the players should be made to stand, this is a silent and peaceful protest, which our constitution gives us the right to do. By forcing the players to stand, you are taking away their constitutional rights, which is exactly the opposite of what our troops fight for.
3. I do believe the players should either kneel, or stand. I don't think staying in the locker room is appropriate for the NFL players. I believe this because the NFL players should either protest or participate. Just simply not going out when the national anthem is being played is not protesting or participating in my opinion. And that is the whole reason they would not go out during the national anthem.
4. I do not believe that going after the NFL players over twitter was appropriate for a president of a well respected nation. His actions speak greatly for his level of maturity, and quite frankly, were the actions I would expect out of a high school girl. Tweeting about someone or something as big as "disrespecting" the national anthem is not something that should be done over a social media platform.
5. I believe race does play a big role, because when you call KKK or alt-right protestors "fine people", and then call Colin Kaepernick explicit names, this shows his prejudice for people of color. Especially when the KKK protestors held torch flames and were extremely violent to the point where one person was even killed. The NFL players are protesting silently and not to disrupt anyone, but because it is their own beliefs. The "fine people" were also protesting for other races to be put down, while Kaepernick was protesting for racial equality.
6. I do not know much about Colin Kaepernick, I do know that he was the first person to silently protest the national anthem. I am also aware of the fact that he was fired from his football team, not because he did not play well, but because of his protesting. I also am aware of the fact that despite not currently being on a team, Trump has been talking about him in a very negative way.
