1. Summarize the story in a paragraph.
Four day school weeks are becoming more popular in rural areas such as Colorado. Many people believe these four day weeks have positive benefits, and others aren't so sure. They believe more research needs to be done. Other concerns have been brought up such as daycare, but many people are in favor of the four day weeks.
2. What are some of the advantages to four day weeks, according to the article?
Some advantages are that children get home closer to the time their parents do, some schools have seen test scores improve, and schools have been able to have money for supply's and teacher's salaries. Some more benefits would be students being able to work more during the week, and have more extracurriculars.
3. What are some of the disadvantages to a four day week, according to the article?
Some disadvantages are that children will need daycare for their extra day off, another disadvantage is that some towns have seen levels of adolescent crime go up since instituting a four day week.
4. Would you be in favor of only going to school four days a week? Why?
I would be in favor of a four day week because I believe there are many ways you can use the Friday to help academically. You could catch up on homework, or go to tutoring. I could also use the Friday to work or do chores around the house.
5. What kind of changes would you make in your life if you only had to go to school four days a week?
I would spend more time on homework at night instead of watching Netflix, because I know that I would get an extra day off of school. I would also better prepare for my tests and quizzes because the extra time would help in making me less stressed so I could focus more.
6. What do you think your parents would say about a four day week?
I do not think they would mind a four day week. This is because both my sister and I are able to stay home alone so they would not have to worry about daycare. This would also benefit them because if they needed chores done around the house, we would do them during the day.
7. How would you deal with longer class days, for example, schools on a four day schedule often begin at 7 am and end 5 pm.?
Dealing with longer class hours would promote some challanges. Especially if you participate in sports. This is because practices are normally before school, and games are after school. This would stretch the school day even longer. You would have to make sure you were managing your time correctly and sleeping a good amount of time.
