Earthquake Story


  Citizens of San Francisco experienced a 6.4 magnitude earthquake at 8:12am on a Monday morning.

 The Hayward Fault Line shifted.

  "A building housing McHenry's Auto Supply Shop partially collapsed, killing two people and injuring six others," public information officer Jennifer Vu said.

 Half of the people injured during the earthquake, had serious injuries They were taken to hopital for further treatment.

  "Three out of the six people injured were hurt seriously enough to require hospitalization and were transported to Hayward General Hospital," Vu said.

 The earthquake also killed two people, and was of a 6.4 magnitude on the Richter scale.

 "It [The Earthquake] occurred on the Hayward Fault Line, which runs under hills, the quake was a strong one," Scientist from U.S. Geological Survey Penny Gertz said.

 Firefighters came out and inspected McHenry's auto supply shop, and made sure there was no further damage. There were also 12 police and five American Red Cross responders at the site.

 "Firefighters used rope to stabalize the auto supply shop and conducted a search of the building," Hayward firefighter Mike Lowel said.

 During their search of the building they found and capped a gas leak.

 "They capped a gas line after detecting a gas leak at the site," Hayward firefighter John Hank said.

 The firefighters made sure the site was safe. The earthquake shocked Hayward resident Mike Beamer.

 "I was eating my breakfast when the room started rolling. I dove under the table just as I heard an explosion outside and a chunk of cement flew through my kitchen window," Beamer said.
