Final Exam Part Three
Opinion Writing Topic #4
This is because children need to understand that actions have consequences and having money is not always a given fact of life. By this, I mean that children should not always expect to have their own money or be given money no matter what they do. They need to learn that when you want something, you need to work for it.
Working for allowance provides a sense of accomplishment that makes children want to continue to behave and do chores to work towards getting an allowance again. Behaving and getting allowance shows that if they do something good they will be rewarded, and if they misbehave, they will not be rewarded. This is important for kids to learn so they understand the value of money.
Giving children allowance despite bad behavior or not doing chores leads them to believe that they can act any way they want, and they will still get rewarded. This gives no sense of accomplishment to children and they will not want to improve their behavior or do any chores. It can also result in more bad behavior along the way.
It is also important to instill a good work ethic in children. When a child does work and sees that it can pay off when they get their allowance, this instills a good work ethic. This is crucial in order to be successful in the long run.
If children just expect to be rewarded despite not doing anything to earn the reward, this will create a bad work ethic that is harmful for the future. It will lead them to believe that they are entitled to something just because they want it and have waited for a certain amount of time.
Giving children allowance based on the chores and their behavior can also teach children to be financially responsible. By showing them that they will not get money if they do not work for it, and being strict about the rules can make children financially responsible.
For example, if they want a toy but have no money or have not done any chores, they will learn to only buy things they can afford. Being financially responsible is an important thing to teach children, but there are more ways to do it than giving them a set allowance each week despite their behavior.
Rewarding children for good things and punishing them for bad things is an important thing to do when you are a parent. Giving allowance even if the child has had bad behavior is rewarding the child for misbehaving. Not only does this send the wrong message to the kid, it can also affect them in life.
Giving allowance based off of chores and good behavior is the proper thing to do.
