Ethics Cases

1. Controversy Over A Concert:
The Rocky Mountain News asked their staff not to go to a concert because there was a political event occurring.  Most of the staff did not agree and thought some of their constitutional rights were being taken away.  The company wanted to avoid a potential bias, but this decision only led to more outrage.

My opinion on this situation is that the company should not have dictated their staff's social life. I believe as long as their work staff stayed neutral, they should not have been penalized.

2.Publishing Drunk Drivers' Photos
Don White, a publisher/editor of ,The Anderson News, is posting drunk drivers photos in his newspaper. The offender's are against this because they do not want to have their picture posted in the magazine, some even try extreme measures to avoid their picture being posted. However, White believes this is just the punishment they deserve.

I believe that he is doing the correct thing by posting their picture, because drunk driving incidents were going up and he did what he could, as a citizen, to prevent fatalities.

3.The Media's Foul Ball:
A Cub's fan named, Steve Bartman, was watching the baseball game between the Florida Marlins and the Chicago Cubs. He reached out and caught a fly ball that was still in fair-territory, "stealing" on of the outs the Chicago Cubs needed to win the game. The Florida Marlins ended up coming back and beating the Cubs 8-3 and the  Chicago Cubs could not proceed in the World Series. A news article revealed Steve Bartman and where he lived and worked.

I do not believe that this was ethically right. I think this was a invasion of privacy because there are dedicated fans who may still be angry about the situation and choose to go to his house or work. The news article should not have gone as far to identify the man.
