The idea behind "Sans" is to have fun with friends without having to involve alcohol.
1. Explain why you think guns should be controlled more strictly, or not.
I think that guns need to be controlled more strictly because children should not be able to get their hands on assault weapons. I also think that they should be better controlled because they are too easily accessible in America. There is a video going around the internet, showing a 13 year old boy getting rejected at gas stations because he was trying to purchase a lottery ticket. The child later goes to a gun store and buys a gun off of someone. I think that guns need to be controlled more strictly because that video should be a reality for America.
2. What do you think the response might be if something were to happen at a school in Austin?
I believe that many students and parents would speak up about the issue if something were to happen in Austin. I think that people think that something like this won't happen in Austin, and if it did, it would be a wake-up call for many residents. I also think that the people of Austin would not let this situation be forgotten, I think that we would push for stricter laws about guns and make sure the people were heard.
3. Explain why so-called assault weapons like the AR-15 should be banned, or not?
Assault weapons should be banned from civilian possession because there is no logical reason that a person would need a weapon of war to protect themselves from an intruder, or any other attack. I also think that they should be banned because they are able to do so much harm to people. There is not a logical reason for a person to need this caliber of weapon on a daily basis.
4. What kind of discussions have you had with family and/or friends regarding that event and the responses the past month?
I have had discussions with friends about whether or not there need to be stricter gun laws and their opinions on people keeping assault weapons in their homes. All of the people I have talked to think that there needs to be stricter laws around purchasing guns especially the extremely powerful ones, such as the AR-15.
5. How would you actively participate in the process of trying to enact change for something you felt strongly about?
I would choose to make sure that my voice was being heard and actively protesting it. I would spread awareness and try to talk to others who opposed the idea I had. Another good option to actively spread awareness would be to set up walks or protest
